Mergic's Virtual Private Network (VPN) client allows you to securely connect to a private network, such as your home or corporate LAN, using your handheld's Internet connection. This allows other applications that require network access, such as network HotSync®, e-mail clients, and remote control clients to connect to the computers they need to access. Mergic VPN provides you with the connectivity using widely available authentication and encryption technologies along with the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP).To use Mergic VPN you'll need access to a VPN server running the PPTP protocol. PPTP server support is available as part of many platforms including most Cisco platforms, Nortel Networks VPN products, several of the Microsoft operating systems (Windows® XP, Windows 2000® Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows NT® Workstation and Server), Linux and other operating system and firewall/VPN servers and appliances such as those available from WatchGuard and SnapGear.
